Life, Legacy, and the Funeral Profession: A Local Perspective, by Ryan McCloskey
Ryan McCloskey has dedicated nearly 15 years to serving families as a funeral professional. He currently works at McDonald’s Chapel and Redding Memorial Park, where he helps guide and support the community during life’s most difficult moments.
Beyond his professional role, Ryan is a proud board member of the Shasta Historical Society and leads monthly cemetery tours that highlight the lives and legacies of Redding’s citizens—some of whom hold national significance. His tours are designed to make history engaging, interactive, and accessible, offering the public a chance to learn in a meaningful outdoor setting.
Deeply rooted in his hometown, Ryan was born and raised in Redding, California, and continues to be an active member of the community. He is involved in several service organizations, including the Odd Fellows, the Masons, the Shriners, and the Elks. In his free time, he enjoys historical research and fishing.
Above all, Ryan takes great pride in being a lifelong resident of Shasta County, and he is passionate about sharing its rich and sometimes untold history with others. In his upcoming presentation, he will offer insights into the evolution of the funeral profession, from early traditions to modern practices, highlighting key changes in the industry over the years. Ryan will also address some of the common myths and misconceptions surrounding the profession, offering clarity on topics such as embalming, funeral rituals, and cemetery symbolism. His deep knowledge of local history will provide context for understanding the significant figures interred in our historic cemeteries and how their stories contribute to the broader narrative of the region. Attendees can look forward to an interactive and thought-provoking discussion, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions throughout the program, making for an engaging and educational experience.
The Director’s meeting will begin at 10:00 am with the luncheon beginning at noon.
