Heritage Trail History & Self-Guided Tour
by The Orland Historical & Cultural Society with Dr. Gene Russell and Heritage Trail Docents
Heritage Trail, the Gem of Glenn, was created by a joint effort of several generations of Glenn County citizens. In 1980 Nelda Sweet organized the ‘Save Our Depot’ campaign which began the Heritage Trail with the placement of the Southern Pacific Depot, built in the early 1880’s. The name was coined by Ray Lyon. Buildings of historical significance have been added and maintained through the years. More exhibits are included on the Heritage Trail that also have historical significant to the local communities, their growth, and agriculture.
After the picnic and historical presentation, you will be able to take a self-guided tour of the Heritage Trail. We hope to help you step into the past!
In Railtown you will be able to see the Floyd General Store, Garden Railway Layout, SP Engine & Tender #2852, WYO concrete telephone booth, SP Caboose #432, WYO Junction Car Barn, School Coach Stop, Chrome School, and the Pony Barn.
